The Netherland Dwarf, weighing in at 2 1/2 pounds, is the smallest rabbit recognized by the ARBA. It's round face and body has enchanted rabbit owners since 1965, when it first appeared in America. It was accepted as a breed in 1969, when a chosen few exhibited their Netherland Dwarfs at Convention. Soon after, the ANDRC (American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Association) was created.
The Netherland Dwarf originated in Europe, but has spread all over the world, including Japan, Canada, and the USA.
It has the most varieties, at a whopping 25 (not including the variations, such as blue otter or chocolate silver marten). Even now, new varieties are being shown and eventually accepted, such as Champagne and Ermine.
Plus they are just plain adorable!!
